Open Record on a new custom and your first scene is already there, called
*Welcome*, with a single clip, ready to film.

A **scene** is one moment of the finished video — a welcome, a comment on
someone's result, a closing line. Your scenes sit in a row and play left to
right. Together they are the video. **Add scene** at the top of the room, or the
empty column at the end of the row, adds another.

Each scene holds one or more **clips**, and what you film for a clip is a
**take** — the recording itself.

Click any clip to open its briefing — who it plays for, your notes, and the
**Record** button.

## When one take is not enough

A scene can have more than one **clip**. Clips are alternatives for the same
moment: one for people who answered *Beginner*, another for *Advanced*. Each
visitor sees exactly one clip of each scene, so the running order never
changes — only which clip fills each slot.

A scene with a single clip plays for everyone, and plenty of customs never need
more than that. When you do want to branch one,
see [Choosing who sees a clip](/en/customs/record/who-sees-a-clip/).

## How much filming is left

The meter at the top counts clips, not scenes. It reads **"4 of 7 versions
recorded"** — the honest measure of how much filming is left.

Beside it, **unique videos** counts how many different videos your clips add up
to: each person gets one clip of every scene, so every combination is a
different video.
