Answer types

Source

When you add a step, you pick what kind of answer it collects. The type decides what the visitor sees, and what you can use their answer for afterwards.

Single choice gives a list of options and lets the visitor pick one. Picture choice is the same thing drawn as tiles — each option can carry an image, an icon or an emoji, with an optional label underneath. Turn on allow multiple on either and the visitor can pick several, with an optional minimum and maximum.

These are the types most of a custom is built on. Clips, result-page blocks and end-page audiences all key off which option someone picked, so a choice question is what gives you something to personalise with.

Rating scale asks for a whole number between a low and a high you set — 0 to 10, 1 to 5, 0 to 100 by 10. In Range, set where it starts, where it ends and the step between values; the step has to go from the first value to the last in equal jumps. In Before / after the value, add what reads with every value — a $ before, months or % after. Under Labels you can name the two ends, such as “Not at all” and “Completely”.

Display decides how the visitor answers:

  • Boxes — one box per value. A click answers and moves on to the next step.
  • Slider — the visitor drags, then presses Next. Left untouched, it answers the value it shows.

Boxes fit up to 11 values. A scale with more than that is always a slider.

Star rating is a rating from 1 to 5, drawn as icons — stars, hearts, thumbs or emoji. Pick the style; there are always five.

Height and Weight are number questions with a unit attached. Height can ask in cm, m, ft/in or in; weight in kg, lb or st. The visitor drags a ruler rather than typing, and the unit you choose is what the BMI block on a result page converts from — so a metric custom and an imperial one both add up.

Website URL asks for a single web address. There’s nothing to configure: the field is the whole question. It’s what the Their Website result block uses to show the visitor their own site.

Text answer lets the visitor write in their own words — one field, up to 2,000 characters, with an optional placeholder. You can show what they wrote on a result page, but you can’t personalise on it: clips, result-page blocks and audiences need an answer people can be sorted by — a choice, a rating, a measurement.

A price, a count or an age isn’t a quiz step. Add it as a Number column in the People tab instead: it lives on the contact, you can filter your people by it, and it isn’t asked in the quiz.
